Slapback
Slapback is a multi-generational musical portrait of contemporary mandolin virtuoso Josh Pinkham (Tone Poets - Acoustic Disc ACD-62) and his grandfather, rhythm tenor guitar expert Jerry Thomasson. Descendants of the great Texas fiddle champion, Benny Thomasson, Josh (Benny's great-grandson) and Jerry (Benny's son) romp through vibrant performances of traditional swing, fiddle and modern jazz gems plus two Pinkham originals.
Joining them on six tracks is bassist Samson Grisman who plays with Josh in the Deadly Gentlemen and David Grisman on a scintillating twin-mandolin arrangement of his "Albuquerque Turkey". Josh Pinkham is certainly one of the most important young improvisers on the acoustic scene today.
