David Grisman Quintet at the Great
American Music Hall - 3/79
During the first few months of 1979, following the release of Hot Dawg,
the David Grisman Quintet underwent a subtle transformation -
21-year old Mike Marshall from Lakeland, Florida replaced Todd
Phillips as second mandolinist, and Todd returned to his original
instrument, bass. Guitar whiz Tony Rice and fiddler extraordinaire Darol
Anger remained in their original roles, as did the Dawg himself.
Celebrating the release of the new album, the DGQ played for two consecutive nights (March 5th and 6th) at their
"home base" - San Francisco's elite night spot, the Great American Music Hall. Two sets of incendiary playing
not heard for 30 years, are included in this special collection.
